Colorado Adventure Day Three: Hurricane on the Hill

Day 3: DES Reporting

Last night was insanely windy. We were camped at Morgan Lake just outside of La Grande OR, a municipal campground on the plateau above the city. Blew my tarp off… temporarily lost 5 of 6 pegs. I found them in the morning but spent the night mostly awake trying to hold fly in place in case it rained. Ugh! The winds rolled along all night. We could hear them pick up before feeling them hit. They were at least kind enough to announce their coming. Continue reading “Colorado Adventure Day Three: Hurricane on the Hill”

Colorado Adventure Day Two: Back on Track

Naches to Yakima was an easy go. We stopped for gas in Yakima and chatted with Mike a man I met  in  the  Arco parking  lot, asking first for directions and then discussing life in general. I looked over at NMBL for a second, felt something in my hand, and Mike had put $40 there! He had just won some money and wanted us to have breakfast on him. We paid it forward and tipped our waitress at Denny’s well. Thanks so much Mike! Continue reading “Colorado Adventure Day Two: Back on Track “

Colorado Adventure Day One: The Wrong Way!

One of the problems with any sort of camping is the weather. Hammock camping, while easy to do compared to tenting, is still a pain when it’s raining. It started raining in Birch Bay sometime before dawn and it didn’t let up until well after we struck camp and left at 7:30am. We wanted to just get on the road rather than trying to make breakfast in the rain. We ended up eating in Ferndale at this quaint little place called The Cedars. The food was good and the coffee was welcome.

Back on the road, our goal was to get to the National Forest Service office in Enumclaw to pick up our America the Beautiful Interagency decal for one of the bikes. It’s for camping on a variety of Federal lands such as National Forests, BLM lands, and other Federal agency properties. It gives on loads of camping options across the US.  Continue reading “Colorado Adventure Day One: The Wrong Way! “

Pac Northwest Day 3: Highs and Low Temperatures

March 27, 2016, DES reporting.

Oh, what a good nights sleep; hurray for N’s Hang Calculator! We were both comfortable and cozy overnight and we woke up to a lovely sunrise over the ocean. I even took a picture of my morning view from the hammock. Just a little peek over the water. Bliss!

Pacific Northwest Adventures: In the Beginning

25 March 2016, DES reporting.

Cozy now but didn’t get as far as we wanted to today.

We left home later than we’d planned, because of NMBL’s pressing need to repack (good results, though). The downside was that we hit that infamous Vancouver traffic and the dreaded border wait. Slow doesn’t even begin to describe the experience… note to self, self I said, don’t leave that late again! Get some shut-eye and get up bright and early. And no fiddling with packing.
